Raymond Foster “Ray” Finnell of Taylor Mill, age 88, passed to his final reward on Sunday, February 23rd. He was a self-employed carpenter, bricklayer and home builder, having built hundreds of homes throughout the tri-state area during his long career. At 14 years old, he built his first barn, which is still standing and in use today. He served as building inspector for the City of Taylor Mill for many years, taking pride in being a part of the growth of his home town. He also was happy to help out friends and neighbors with projects around their homes. The quality of his work is best demonstrated by the fact that he never advertised himself, but often had to turn down work because he was too busy. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Penny, who just passed away January 24th. He is survived by his sons David (Margaret) of Burlington, KY and Mark (Kay) of Jefferson City, MO, his grandchildren Jesse Edward (Lauren) Finnell, Carl Robert Finnell, Megan Ann Finnell, Steven Ray Finnell and Lisa Marie Tucker, and great granddaughter Nora Hadley Finnell. He is also survived by his sisters Ann Weaver, Barbara Joyce (Robert) Jett and Jessie Jo (Stewart) Halbauer. He was preceded in death by his parents John Addison and Edna Barberick Finnell, brothers Calvin, Earl, James, Denver and John and sister Gloria. He also leaves a large number of very dear nieces and nephews. He was a 60-year member of Colonel Clay Lodge No. 159, F. & A.M., a 58-year member of Rosebud Chapter 39, Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, York Rite and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1469. Visitation will be Thursday, February 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, 5645 Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, KY, with Masonic Services at 7:45 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday, February 28th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill, KY.
