James “Jim” Ford, age 89. resident of Covington, KY, formerly of Georgetown, and Somerset, KY. Passed to his eternal reward, Saturday, July 2, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Health Care, Edgewood, KY. Born in Louisville, KY: his family moved near Someset, KY in 1930. His first job was as a Louisville Courier-Journal newspaper boy. As a teenager, he earned the Eagle Award in Boy Scouts. Graduated from Someset High School in 1944 and joined the Navy during WW#2, serving in the Naval Ammunitions Department in Indiana. After his discharge, he returned home, earned his BA in architecture in 1951 at Auburn University. Married his wife Doris, and worked at an architectural firm in Birmingham, AL, where he drew plans for a variety of building, churches, and industrial building. He, Doris and their three children moved back to Kentucky in 1970 where he began working with the Lake Cumberland Area Develpment District. He applied his gifts and talents to assist area cities and counties to work together after the devastgating 1974 tornado attack. In 1985, he, Doris and family moved to Georgetown, KY where he worked for a number of architectural firms providing services to Frankfort, Louisville, Lexington and Cincinnati, In 2002 he retired to take care of Doris who was experiencing health Issues; until her passing in 2012. He was also a co-founder of the Scott County Habitat for Humanity, which has built “Habitat Village,” (seven other homes on individual lots), and delveloped the ReStore Thrift Store. Predeceded in death by his: beloved wife Doris Elizabeth Smith Ford (9-15-2012); parents-Zerno Matthew and Rebeca Barnett Ford. He is survived by his: daughter-Linda (Mark H.) Gooch, sons-Tom (Lois) and David (Karen) Ford; grandchildren-Brian (Melissa) Scott Gooch, Paige Whitney Gooch, Nathan Ford, Jonah (Courtney) Ford, Hannah Ford, Mathew Ford, Justin (Alyssa) Ford, Lauren Ford; great grandchildren-Eleanor Ruth Gooch, Kathryn Claire Ford and cousins- J. B. Ford and Toni Cole. SERVICES have been held.at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, 5645 Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, KY. INTERMENT Somerset Cemetery, Somerset, KY.
