Katharine Alaire Ranney, 97 ,died Monday, December 15, 2013 at Villasprings of Erlanger, KY. . Resident of Lakeside Park, KY. She is survived by four children, Elaine K. (Dave) Roy of Lakeside, Park, KY, Arthur L. (Mary Rose) Ranney Phd, of Plattville, WI, Frances J. Ranney, Phd, of Ferndale, MI, Robert J. (Karen) Ranney of Independence, KY. She has 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was born January 2, 1916 in Youngstown, OH to Katharine and Arthur M. Lytle. In 1941 she married James F. Ranney who preceded her in death in January 2009. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Lakeside Park for many years and served of various boards and committees. She founded the Tuesday morning prayer group which continues to this day. From 1939 to 1944 she was on-air personality for WFMJ radio station in Youngstown, OH as Sister Kay. Sister Kay read the funny paper to children over the air while children followed along in the newspaper, the Youngstown Vindicator, at home. During WW11 she earned her second class engineers certificate so that she could take over her husband’s job in the control room when he was drafted into the Army. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held January 4, 2014, 10:30 AM at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, 5645 Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, KY, with VISITATION from 9:30AM until hour of service.
